Why aim for 800 KB rather than exactly 1 MB?
Servers and devices count megabytes differently, and an upload sitting exactly on the cap is the one most likely to be rejected. The margin costs nothing visible.
How much smaller is this than my original photo?
Typically five to ten times smaller for a modern phone photo, with no difference visible on screen.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. ShantiTools compresses the image entirely inside your browser — the file never leaves your device.

Common mistakes

  • •Uploading a screenshot — screenshots are already compressed and often produce blocky JPEGs. Use the original photo instead.
  • •Ignoring dimensions — a file can be the right KB but the wrong shape. This page sets 1500×1900 px automatically.
  • •Cropping too tightly — leave a small margin around the head and shoulders so the form does not cut the face.
  • •Wrong background — busy backgrounds eat KB and can get rejected. Plain white or light works best.

Start with a smaller source file or crop closer to the face. If the form allows a smaller size, try 700 KB.
The result is too small
The source image may be very low resolution. Upload a larger original photo and retry.
My form rejected the upload
Double-check both the KB limit and the pixel dimensions in the form. Some forms also require exact aspect ratios (e.g. 3.5×4.5 cm).
